The competition is open to UK based artists, currently studying (or within 10 years of graduation) an art-related course at a recognised School of Art.
Must be registered by 14 Jan 2012 to be eligible to submit a proposal.
May enter a maximum of one artwork.
Undertakes that the work is of his/her own origination and that he or she holds all moral and intellectual property rights in that work.
Accepts, by signing the registration form that the proposal and sculpture, if shortlisted, is entered at the artist’s risk. The organisers are not liable for any loss or damage incurred to the pieces either in transit or to and from the exhibition, or during any period of storage, packing or unpacking, or in any period in which the work is in their keeping.
Accepts that the Sculpture submitted will be available for sale in the exhibition and that the Broomhill Art and Sculpture Foundation will take a commission of 30%.
Accepts that if they are VAT registered, that this will also be included in the price of the work, stated by the artist on the proposal form.
If selected for the exhibition, agrees to the reproduction of their work (at no fee) in association with the exhibition including but not limited to press, publicity, website and catalogue.
Ten short-listed sculptors will receive £1,000 each to create their final piece (this amount must cover all material costs for a brand new sculpture and all transportation costs to and from the Broomhill site).
Finalists are welcome to find sponsors to assist them in realising their project, we can include sponsor details on the displays and catalogue.
If short-listed for Stage 4 of the competition you will be notified in February 2012. If selected, you will then be required to organise the delivery of your own work to Broomhill by Wed 16 May 2012 and install your piece within a two day time period.
All ten finalists are expected to keep a blog of their work in progress. Blog links will be included on the Broomhill Website.
The ten short-listed sculptures must be available to the Broomhill Art and Sculpture Foundation until Apr 2013. The overall winning piece will remain as part of the Broomhill Art and Sculpture Foundation collection and the ‘Public Speaks’ piece will be displayed from May 2013 until May 2014 at the North Devon Hospice. The remaining eight pieces must be removed in the Spring 2013 by the sculptors, each will be responsible for removing their own piece and paying for transport costs.
The Proposal
The sculpture proposal and completed form must be sent to the following address: Submissions, Broomhill Art Hotel, Muddiford Road, Barnstaple, EX31 4EX.
Full details about submitting your proposal will be emailed to you once registered. We will not accept proposals unless you have registered and paid the registration fee by 14 Jan 2012.
All proposals must include a series of hand drawn sketches showing the creative process.
We will be accepting proposals by post from 23 – 28 Jan 2012. Anything received before or after these dates will not be accepted (entry fees will not be refunded).
If you wish to have proposals returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
You may if you wish submit a maquette, but this is not necessary.
The proposed design must be for a brand new piece, we will not accept work that has already been constructed.
Must be the original work of the artist named on the registration form.
