The Judging Panel
The judging panel for 2011 includes internationally renowned artists and sculptors: Nigel Minard, Carol Peace, Rob Ryan, Tim Shaw and Broomhill owners, Rinus and Aniet Van de Sande. Their collective, diverse experience was put to the test in February 2011 when choosing ten works for the final Summer exhibition and will be again in September when deciding which piece takes the 2011 title!
Nigel Minard • Head of Art, West Buckland School
Nigel Minard has been Head of Art at West Buckland since 1994. For over twenty years he has encouraged Art students to pursue fulfilling careers in a wide variety of disciplines, from film-making and photography to graphics, fashion, architecture, fine art and sculpture. His students have gone on to study at major institutions including Central St Martin’s, the Courtauld Institute, the Slade and the Royal College of Art.
Carol Peace • Sculptor and Painter
Carol Peace studied sculpture at Winchester School of Art and drawing at The Prince’s Drawing School. She has obtained numerous public and private commissions and regularly shows at the Fairfax Gallery, Chelsea and Beaux Arts in Bath. In 2007 she co-founded the Bristol Drawing School and is currently the artistic director there.
Rob Ryan • Visual artist
Rob specialises in paper-cutting and screen-printing.
Rob Ryan’s artwork has featured in Vogue and in a collaboration with fashion designer Paul Smith. He also illustrates book and album covers, including John Connolly’s novel The Book of Lost Things, Erasure’s album Nightbird, Chambers Lost Crafts by Una McGovern and Dara Horn’s novel The World to Come.
Tim Shaw • Sculptor
