Janette Mason and Dudley Phillips
Fri 04 April 08 •20:00
An ‘inspired and inspiring’ keyboard player and improviser, Janette Mason’s work encompasses jazz, pop, indie and world music. A versatility that has made her a sort after sideman with artists as diverse as Oasis, Pulp, Suzanne Vega and Seal to legendary singer/songwriter Robert Wyatt and jazz vocalists Claire Martin, Ian Shaw, Lea DeLaria.
As a composer and arranger she was recently commissioned to write the score for MEDB’s Feature Film, Ruby Blue, starring Bob Hoskins and Josiane Balasko and contributed four arrangements to Ian Shaw’s Album Drawn to All things.
Her latest line up featuring regular bassist Dudley Phillips and newcomer Josh Giunta aims to thrust the jazz piano trio into the 21st century, using Janette’s distinctive compositions and use of jazz harmony with her continuing love of challenging rhythmical time signatures and uncompromising homage to the art of improvisation.
“Janette Mason’s breakout album is a triumph of elegant themes, catchy hooks, fierce swing, classy execution and uncompromising openness to improvisation. Shortlist-of-The-Year-Contender” - John Fordham, The Guardian
Her skill as a composer has lead her to write music for Sex in the City, Drew Carey Show and most recently the score for Ruby Blue, Bob Hoskins latest movie due for release in 2008.
This Spring sees the release of her eagerly awaited second album Alien Left Hand featuring Julian Siegel, Tom Arthurs, Lea DeLaria, Dudley Phillips and Josh Giunta.

Caroline Nin
Wed 07 May 08 •20:00
Caroline Nin is a classic femme fatale, one that charms, intrigues and turns your imagination into a plethora of images, stories and memories through her mesmerizing personality, her captivating, rich voice and her own musical interpretations on a repertoire ranging from Piaf to Greco, Dietrich to Brel.
“Caroline Nin has been described as the Marlene Dietrich of the 21st Century. She is as sultry and breathlessly devastating as Dietrich, she is as captivating and intriguing as Piaf. She is the epitome of style and class, she croons, she purrs and sings in perfect English, French and German. Her singing and theatrical presentation pushes both established torch songs and cabaret standards to a different level.”

“[The album] explores a mix of trance-like, long-note music over eerie, hypnotic grooves, full-on electronics and free-improv, melancholic songs, punky thrashes and some of the best two-sax conversation to be heard on the current scene.” - JohnFordham, The Guardian
“The big-hitters of the current new wave.” - Phil Johnson, Independent On Sunday - ABC
