Amy Cooper @ Broomhill

We have asked the artist to provide a statement about their work, an edited personal history, and a selection of exhibitions and commissions. The content here is entirely their words and selection. Works illustrated here have been chosen by the artist.

The works shown on this page are not necessarily on display at Broomhill.

The Artist Speaks

My work is predominantly in clay. I enjoy the challenge of thinking from different directions that I find when I switch between a craft and fine art discipline.

I use different methods of drawing, and photography to inform both strands of my practice. I feel that clay is about history and energy, the history of humanity as well as the energy embodied in our planet. It is adaptable and approachable, a material everybody can relate to. My work is about working with the elements that form our world. More than anything my inspiration comes from the energy of nature.

I strive to create a feeling of quiet energy within my work.
