The Art of a Well Spent Day @ Broomhill

Where art and culture meet in magical surroundings

Pond Life by David Kemp

Welcome to Broomhill Art Hotel, Sculpture Gardens, Art Gallery and Restaurant in North Devon.

Broomhill lies in one of the most glorious valleys in North Devon surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland and bound by its own stream. The Broomhill Sculpture Park displays one of the largest permanent collections of contemporary art and sculpture in the South West. 300 sculptures by over 60 sculptors are sited in 10 acres of garden that present a wonderful balance between art and nature.

Start your day at Broomhill with a mid-morning coffee or tea in our intimate restaurant or outside on the sun-warmed terrace. Stroll amongst the fantastic collection of bronzes and stone sculptures for sale on the new lawned garden.

Broomhill is a place where your senses can go wild with fascinating art, monumental sculpture, vibrant events and mouth watering organic food and drink, priding itself particularly on its fusion between art and good food.

“The Broomhill Art Hotel’s sculpture forest has tongue-in-cheek humour that evokes Alice in Wonderland: nothing is quite as it first appears... My favorite was Greta Berlin's seven-meter red, patent-leather stiletto, which welcomes guests into the driveway of the intimate...bed-and-breakfast.” - from News Week 29 June 2009

Broomhill National Sculpture Prize

Ten short-listed sculptors were carefully selected by a judging panel comprising internationally acclaimed artists Tim Shaw, Rob Ryan and Carol Peace at the beginning of this year. Each of the ten finalists were given a £1,000 budget to turn their proposed idea into an inspiring finished piece for the Summer Exhibition. The final ten sculptures are now on display at Broomhill until Spring 2012.

Tenfold - Contemporary Bronze Sculpture

Tenfold

Tenfold is a group of artists content to accept the limitations of a traditional framework, without paying particular attention to the current month's art magazines.

The Tenfold artists tend to work figuratively. Most often they are communicating about the experience of being human. They use bronze for their end product for the love of the material and its unique qualities.

Artists of the Silk Road

Artists of the Silk Road

Sculptor Laury Dizengremel’s installation ‘Artists of the Silk Road’ was brought to Broomhill Sculpture Park in 2008 as part of the North Devon Festival. This installation consists of an impressive 85 figures and is a follow-on from the three ‘Artists’ that were introduced previously, standing over three metres tall in the woodland garden, taking the audience further into the artist’s journey.

Passion Blossoms

Ronald Westerhuis

An email with some images, a couple of years ago, made me decide to visit Ronald Westerhuis in his Dutch studio. I was immediately taken by his monumental abstract stainless steel objects, designed with such thought, to stand out in landscapes or suburban enclosures, when touched by sun light they reflected a heightened spirit and energy.

‘Welcome to the Third Millennium’

On The Court by Mike Roles

Welcome to the Third Millennium

This is the first in a series of major shows at Broomhill as this celebration year represents the starting point for the development of three sites in the garden, enabling Broomhill to present their audience with a unique series of exhibitions, showcasing the work of independent artists and the Tenfold Collective.

New beginnings, new opportunities for change and for mankind to make the world a better place are upon us, and they are expressed in the form of Roles' sculpture at Broomhill. The exhibition is enhanced by the 40 page fully illustrated catalogue which also includes writing from internationally renowned artist, author and curator Professor Deanna Petherbridge.
